Arts and Culture in Kentucky In Kentucky, the arts are alive and thriving. From a well-supported symphony to smaller performance theaters and nightclubs, Kentuckians are able to enjoy rich cultural experiences. From community theater productions to professional Broadway-style performances, theater is well represented throughout the region. In communities like Bowling Green, Louisville and Lexington, groups of artists create on canvas, in clay and through other media. Keeping native arts and traditions is a mission of many Kentuckians, whose artisanship is demonstrated through quilts, woodworking, weaving, and even musical instrument making. Kentucky's colleges and universities provide additional outlets for both local and out-of-state performers. One example, Centre College's Norton Center for the Arts reputation is national in scope. The Lexington Arts and Cultural Council is a cultural planning organization devoted to the advocacy of the arts in the community. LACC provides a point of centralized leadership and financial support for 58 member local arts organizations. If it is world-class theater or opera or ballet or whatever interests you, Louisville can accommodate. Louisville's Kentucky Center for the Arts is a showplace for national touring performances and concerts. The arts are thriving in Kentucky, and provide cultural experiences for all.
