ACTORS' GUILD OF LEXINGTON
Actor's Guild of Lexington, Inc. is a 12-year-old theater
company with a mission to produce compelling contemporary theater for the region.
CENTRAL KENTUCKY YOUTH CHORUS
The Central Kentucky Youth Chorus provides talented
musicians of Central Kentucky, grades four and up, with individual musical skill
development and ensemble experience through the study, rehearsal and performance of
quality choral literature. This award-winning chorus strives to develop each chorister's
sense of self-worth and self-discipline, and foster enthusiasm for music and the fine
arts.
CENTRAL KENTUCKY YOUTH ORCHESTRAS
The Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras sponsor two groups
for young musicians in the Bluegrass area. The Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1947, is
comprised primarily of outstanding high school-aged musicians. The Concert Orchestra,
founded in 1968, incorporates the most talented middle school musicians.
HEADLEY-WHITNEY MUSEUM
Established in 1968 by the late artist/designer, George W.
Headley, the museum offers a variety of exhibitions that feature contemporary work from
regional artists, traveling exhibits from other museums and private collections.
LEXINGTON CHAPTER OF SWEETADELINES, INTERNATIONAL
This award-winning all-female group teaches its members to
sing in four-part harmony, barbershop style. It regularly brings "fun" to area
retirement and nursing homes and gives many community and civic performances.
LEXINGTON CHILDREN'S THEATER
Lexington Children's Theater is recognized as the State
Children's Theater of Kentucky. This company of professional adult actors, directors,
designers and educators offer quality live theater to young people across the
Commonwealth.
LEXINGTON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
In its fourth decade, the Lexington Philharmonic performs
more than 90 times annually. It has become a cornerstone of the arts in Central Kentucky.
LIVING ARTS AND SCIENCE CENTER
The Living Arts and Science Center was incorporated in 1968
to satisfy the artistic and scientific curiosity of young people and adults through
classes, exhibits and outreach programs in the community. Each year, LASC continues to
expand its creative offerings to reach further into the community through programs for
special needs and at-risk students. In 1997 more than 16,000 children, many on
scholarships, took classes and attended exhibits designed to enliven creative instincts,
stimulate thinking, and awaken a sense of wonder.
OPERA OF CENTRAL KENTUCKY, INC.
Opera of Central Kentucky, Inc. is a company of
professional singers, directors, conductors and technical staff from the Bluegrass area.
LEXINGTON BALLET COMPANY
The professional stature of the Lexington Ballet Company
has positioned the 17-year-old group as a cultural leader in the state.
LEXINGTON SINGERS
Founded 38 years ago by nine local musicians, the Lexington
Singers are now 120 voices strong. They combine their talents with the Lexington
Philharmonic Orchestra in community performances throughout the year.
LEXINGTON ART LEAGUE
Lexington Art League is the oldest visual arts organization
in the Bluegrass. Its purpose is to encourage an active interest in the visual arts among
its members and the community.
MITCHELL FINE ARTS CENTER
On the Transylvania University campus, the Mitchell Fine
Arts Center contains a 1,050-seat auditorium as well as a 250-seat theater and gallery for
exhibits and displays of fine art.
OTIS A. SINGLETARY CENTER FOR THE ARTS
A keystone of the University of Kentucky campus, the Otis
A. Singletary Center for the Arts serves as a premiere venue for the performing arts. The
center schedules faculty and student recitals, guest artists and concerts of interest to
the community throughout the year.
