Kentucky's Media

In Kentucky, there is a wide variety of newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations that exist to serve all Kentuckians.

Many of Kentuckians still prefer to receive their news via a newspaper. Whether it is a newspaper with a large circulation such as Louisville's Courier Journal or Lexington's Herald Leader or a smaller and more local publication such as the Paducah Sun, Kentuckians have a myriad of options.

The Lane Report is Kentucky's monthly business magazine. Its business-oriented editorial philosophy provides the latest economic news as well as in-depth stories on issues important to company owners, managers and workers.

All major television networks are represented by strong, community-minded affiliates in Kentucky. NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, WB, and UPN and their coinciding affiliates provide both local and network programming as well as a strong line-up of news and public affairs programs.

Kentucky Educational Television (KET) provides nearly 150 instructional series to elementary and secondary schools. In 1998, KET won both first and second place in the Best Documentary category from the National Education Telecommunications Associationža nonprofit organization of public broadcasting licensees in 34 states. KET also won a second-place award in the performance, information and single video item categories. Five regional Emmys were also won by KET. KET provides specially processed programming for those who are hearing impaired.

Kentucky's radio stations range from public to private with formats that include full-service, talk, country, pop, rock, R&B, oldies, progressive, adult-oriented and religious.

Kentucky's media is alive and well in a variety of genres.
