Ringing in the Holiday Season
Festive sights and sounds make the season bright
Bright colors, joyous movement, and
glorious music are a part of Kentuckys magical holiday celebrations.
Whether continuing long-standing traditions or creating one anew, you
will find the perfect setting for holiday cheer thanks to Kentuckys
many arts organizations.
Theater

Dance
What would the holiday season be without The Nutcracker
ballet? This year, there will be six productions of the perennial holiday
favorite, starting with Lake Cumberland Performing Arts
presentation on December 3. Subsequent performances of The Nutcracker
include productions by the Frankfort Arts Foundation (Dec. 13),
the Lexington Ballet Company (Dec. 13-15, 20-22), the Kentucky
Center for the Arts (Dec. 18-23, 26-28), the Cincinnati Ballet
(Dec. 18-23, 26-28), and the Kentucky Ballet Theatre (Dec. 20-22).
Music
Renfro Valley will feature Christmas in the
Valley Nov. 15-Dec. 14. Pikeville College will hold its
Winter Choral Concert on Nov. 21. The Mountain Arts Center in
Prestonsburg will host The Kentucky Opry Christmas Show
November 29 and Dec. 7-8, 14-15 and 20. Morehead State University
choir will present its Christmas concert on Dec. 2 and the annual Christmas
sing-a-long on Dec. 5. The Campbellsville University chorus concert
featuring Bachs Magnificat and Pinkhams Christmas
Cantata will be held Dec. 4. The Georgetown College Concert
Choirs Christmas Concert is scheduled for Dec. 5, with a Messiah
Sing slated for Dec. 8. The Cumberland College Madrigal Dinner
will take place Dec. 3, 5, 6 & 7. The University of Kentucky
Christmas Collage will be held Dec. 7-8 and the University
of Kentucky Opera Theatre will stage Amahl and the Night Visitors
Dec. 7-8. Both Eastern Kentucky University and Berea College
are holding their holiday Christmas concerts on Dec. 8. Asbury College
will host a Festival of Christmas Music on Dec. 15. Shaker
Village of Pleasant Hill will offer The Shaker Order of Christmas
Dec. 7 and 14, along with community Christmas caroling on Dec. 14 and
The Simple Gifts of Christmas Dec. 16-31. Madisonville
Community College will host the Boys Choir of Harlem in Christmas
Past, Present and Future on Dec. 10. The Richmond Area Arts
Council will hold a Celtic Holiday Celebration on Dec. 12.The Lexington
Brass Band will present Tis the Season on Dec.
8. The Lexington Philharmonic and the Lexington Singers
will present The Messiah on Dec. 13 and will also host the
Kentucky Christmas Chorus on Dec. 17. In addition, the Philharmonics
Family Series is presenting a Candy Cane Concert on Dec.
15. The Cincinnati Pops will be offering Happy Holidays
from the Pops Dec. 13-15. The Paducah Symphony Orchestra
will hold its annual gala Christmas concert Dec. 14. The Lexington
Chamber Chorale will hold their 12th annual Christmas event featuring
Twelve Drummers Drumming on Dec. 15.
The choices are many and wonderful,
