YOUNG PROFESSIONALS - April 2002
by Jennifer Kustes

It's All in the Planning
Officers work behind the scenes to help professionals succeed

The Lexington Young Professionals Association (LYPA) and the Young Professionals Association of Louisville (YPAL) have many talented people who will help guide them into the future. While the organizations’ presidents are perhaps the most visible (see The Lane Report, January 2002), the vice presidents also play a big role.

LYPA’s recently-appointed vice president is Joy Sanders, campaign director for the United Way of the Bluegrass. Previously serving as secretary, she was appointed in February to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of LYPA’s former vice president. Her term runs through September when she will step up to the presidency.

As vice president, Sanders’ major responsibilities include LYPA’s day-to-day operations, running all Steering Council meetings and making sure LYPA is meeting all of its goals. She also reports the activities of the Steering Council to the LYPA Board of Directors.

Jessica White, vice president of YPAL, practices real estate law with Frost Brown Todd, LLC. Her term began in June of 2001 and runs through May. She previously served as YPAL’s Diversity Chair.

White serves as a member of the YPAL Executive Committee and works closely with several of the committee chairs in planning and promoting events. She also communicates with the membership via the YPAL Web site and weekly newsletter.

Both LYPA and YPAL regularly plan community-focused activities.

LYPA will be participating in the 8th Annual Human Race on May 11 to raise money for non-profit organizations. The Human Race is organized by First-Link of the Bluegrass and includes a 5Kwalk and run. Walkers and runners will collect pledges and funds to support LYPA and other non-profit organizations.

YPAL is currently working with the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates to encourage co-workers and friends to let their families know they want to be a donor. YPAL is looking for people to volunteer to be the contact person for their business or organization.
