From education and accounting to media communication and business, Asbury offers bachelors degrees in 48 majors and programs of study. More than 75 percent of the faculty members hold a terminal degree in their field. Asbury was placed among top liberal arts colleges in the nation by The National Review College Guide, and U.S. News & World Report ranked Asbury 7th among liberal arts colleges in the South. Tuition for the 1999-2000 academic year is $16,410 (a figure that includes room, board, tuition and fees).
Asbury Theological Seminary is an interdenominational graduate school of theology, mission and evangelism. Founded in 1923, Asbury Seminary is one of the nations 10 largest seminaries with an enrollment of 1,200 students, representing 71 denominations. Since its founding, Asbury Seminary has prepared more than 7,000 men and women for worldwide Christian leadership in the Wesleyan tradition. With a present campus located in Wilmore, Kentucky, a second campus in Orlando, Florida, will begin classes this fall. Students will be taught by commuting faculty and by the utilization of the Seminarys high-tech teaching methods, including interactive audio-video technology and distance-learning classrooms on both campuses. Asbury Seminary is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award masters and doctoral degrees; it is also an accredited member of The Association of Theological Schools in the U.S. and Canada (TATS).
Bellarmine students are exposed to a myriad of internships, which often lead to full-time positions. In addition, Bellarmine students are accepted to medical, law and graduate schools at a high rate after learning from an outstanding faculty committed to teaching. Tuition at Bellarmine is currently $12,480 for the year, plus an additional $4,110 for room, food and fees. However, 90 percent of incoming freshman receive financial aid, and Bellarmines tuition is 20 percent below the national average for private colleges.
The real attraction, however, is that Berea provides every student with a full-tuition scholarship. Enrollment is limited to 1,500, and each student, in addition to a full academic load, works 10-15 hours per week in a college job that helps students earn a portion of their expenses as well as gain valuable experience. Eighty percent of the students are from the Appalachian region; all have high ability but limited financial resources. In 1999, Berea was rated the top regional liberal arts college in the South by U.S. News & World Report. Four years ago, the magazine ranked Berea No. 1 in the South in a study of teaching quality.
Campbellsville University is a private Level III institution that is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention. The university stresses academic excellence and personal growth within a nurturing, Christian environment. Tuition is currently $8,000; with room and board it is $12,230 for the year. Over 90 percent of the students receive aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and student employment opportunities (80 percent of the universitys students work).
