'98 Top Women in Business
This year
marks the fifth anniversary of The Lane Report's special issue honoring Central
Kentucky's Top Women in Business. Certainly, many things have changed for women in the
workplace. It wasn't so long ago that a successful business woman was something of a
novelty, a curiosity among her predominantly male peers. A successful business woman
carried no small amount of baggage with her in those days, not the least of which were
hidden assumptions about her personal life and her professional qualifications.
Thankfully, those hidden assumptions and attitudes are
changing as more and more women move into leadership roles within the business community.
Along with positive changes come new challenges,
however. How to balance work and family? How to break into the traditionally male networks
built around happy hours and golf courses?
The five women selected as Central Kentucky's Top Women in
Business for 1998 share their thoughts on success, how business has changed since their
careers began and what the future holds for women in the workplace.
